Formative Feedback Throughout the term students receive a variety of feedback to encourage growth towards mastery of standards. Reading, writing, science, and social studies use teacher and peer feedback as the main means of assessment. In math, students will take a pre-assessment at the beginning of the unit and will take work samples and checkpoints approximately once a week during the unit. These will be graded using points and returned to students for review. At the end of the unit students will take a post-assessment that will be graded uses points and returned.
End of Term Reporting Avoca West uses a standards based report card. Teachers carefully review student progress in the standards at the end of the grading period. The following scale is used on the report card. Sec (Secure) -- Student displays mastery of the standard consistently and independently Dev (Developing) -- Student approaches mastery of the standard; may require adult assistance or is inconsistent Beg (Beginning) -- Student requires consistent adult support when working toward standard NA -- Standard has not yet been assessed for this grading period
